Daniel J. Hillmer, Architect

Born- Granite City, Illinois, Elementary and High School - Edwardsville, Illinois B.S.(Architecture) and M.Arch.(Urban Design), U. of Illinois Licensed CA Architect, 1982-current Dan Hillmer, urban designer and architect, has thirty years of experience in public and private development projects throughout California. He has taught at the University of Illinois and served as guest design lecturer at Stanford University.

Hillmer is currently Mayor and a City Councilmember in Larkspur, and has served four terms as Mayor. He currently represents Larkspur to The Ross Valley Paramedic Authority as President, and is a Commissioner to the Bay Conservation and Development Commission serving as alternate representative for the North Bay Counties of Marin Sonoma Napa and Solano.

Representative projects for Gast Hillmer Urban Design as Principal-in-charge include the San Quentin State Prison Reuse Study for the California Legislature and DGS, the East and West Agnews Mixed-Use Area Plans for the State of California in Silicon Valley (National League of Cities "All American Cities Award"), San Rafael Hillside Design Guidelines (American Planning Association "National Planning Implementation Award"), San Rafael Downtown Community Plan (Honor Award from the Ahwahnee Conference on Smart Growth), Marin County Residential Design Guidelines, Cow Palace Master Plan for the City of Daly City with the State Fairs Commission, and Bayfront Specific Plan for the Town of Corte Madera, California.

Prior to starting his practice, Hillmer worked with the firms of RMW (formerly Robinson, Mills & Williams) Architects, San Francisco; George V. Banning AIA, Marin County, CA; and Hall, Goodhue, Haisley, Barker (HGHB) Architects and Urban Designers, San Francisco. He is a graduate of the University of Illinois, where he completed his Masters degree in Architecture and Urban Design

Hillmer has training in environmental conflict resolution from the Center for Dispute Resolution (CDR) in Boulder Colorado.
