Kate Colin was unanimously appointed to the San Rafael City Council in January 2013. She has lived in the Sun Valley neighborhood since 1996 with her husband Jeff and two teenagers. Kate loves living in San Rafael because of its diversity of people, wonderful neighborhoods and beautiful open space.

Kate was a San Rafael Planning Commissioner for nearly 8 years and she brings her land use background and long civic involvement to the Council. Her City involvements include participating on the Citizen Advisory Committee to Redevelopment (1999 + 2004), Critical Facilities Stakeholder Committee (2004-2005), co-chairing the General Plan 2020 Steering Committee (2002-2003), co-chairing San Rafael's Climate Change Action Plan (2008-2009) and, most recently before her appointment, participation on the City's Homeless Stakeholder Committee (2012).

In addition to her extensive civic commitment, she has spent an equal amount volunteering for organizations in which her children and family were involved. She was a Girl Scout leader for 7 years, soccer coach for 3 years, served as a Board member for the non-profit Family Service Agency, participated in improving Congregation Rodef Sholom's religious school and served as President and Board member of National Charity League's San Rafael Mission Belles chapter + a mother and daughter organization which provides hands on volunteering to local organizations.

Kate has a MBA from Kellogg Graduate School of Management/Northwestern University and a BA from Dartmouth College. Prior to her appointment to the City Council, she was deeply involved in her children's' activities as she chaired the school on-line auction, organized the school scrip program, was the director of the Ross Valley Mother's Club and organized the Pixie Park Spring Fair. Her business background includes working for the Walt Disney Company and L.A. Gear as a brand manager.

She is a life-long competitive athlete who runs, bikes, swims, plays soccer and practices yoga. She also enjoys hiking with her family and growing vegetables in her garden.
