Land Use

By Steve Zuckerman

Candidate for Member, City Council; City of Rolling Hills Estates

This information is provided by the candidate
Bad land use decisions are nearly impossible to undo, so the mandate of the City Council should be to adhere to the low density goals of our General Plan.
I have been the most consistent member of the City Council with respect to the importance of maintaining our unique low density legacy in both our neighborhoods and in our commercial district.

Neighborhoods:

Our city is essentially built-out, so there are very few areas where new housing developments will be possible. As such our primary responsibility will be to maintain our zoning standards for home additions. Although growing families should be encouraged to add space to their homes, this must be done in a manner that will not lead to over built lots and the kind of "mansionization" that has negatively impacted neighborhoods in other affluent communities.

Commercial District:

Based on the goals of our General Plan, the results of three independent studies, and public opinion that was clearly expressed in a series of public workshops, I have opposed turning this important part of the city into a collection of poorly designed condominium complexes that will only benefit developers at the expense of the general community.
