Personal Statement

My purpose in embarking on this path is to be of service to the community. Service on the school board is not a political aspiration, but a passion for the betterment of our society on the "front lines". Schools can- and should- serve as the portal for change in the life of the entire community. On this subject, the California School Boards Association has identified five lines of action that school boards are entrusted by citizens in their community to accomplish. They are as follows:

Setting Direction/ Provide Support for District Staff My educational background and strengths in collaboration and communication will assist the board to create a vision that incorporates the wants and hopes of all stakeholders so that ALL students achieve their full potential. It will also inform the board's dedication to transformative and useful teacher and administrator training.

Establish Effective and Efficient Structure I am a curious about and anxiously concerned with the academic excellence of all students. Those attributes will contribute to the conversation as the board works to evaluate, attract and adopt excellent curriculum, teachers, and administrators.

Ensuring Accountability/ Act as Community Leader My work and service experience in the field of education has led me to understand the power of honest self-evaluation, reflection and accountability. My training in positive inquiry and data collection will serve as a valuable tool to measure and monitor student achievement and program effectiveness.

Using the aforementioned structure, the school board (acting as a team) can work to address a community issue that is my focus: student achievement and excellent teaching for ALL!
