Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Mark Owen White

Candidate for
Governing Board Member; Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate

My mission is to create a coalition of parents, teachers, administrators and community stakeholders for the purpose of raising awareness and involvement in the educational lives of our kids. When elected, it will be my stated goal to provide a voice to those stakeholders.

  • I BELIEVE IN OUR KIDS. This generation of kids is like any other. They will rise or fall based on the education, morals, work ethic and determination they are taught when they are young. I believe in them because our future depends on it. WE CANNOT FAIL THEM.

  • I believe in TEACHERS. My daughter's teachers have embodied all that is good about the teaching profession. We need to enable an environment where teaching excellence is the standard. Teachers need to be empowered, recognized and challenged to bring their very best to the classroom.

  • I believe in our PRINCIPALS. They are dedicated professionals who genuinely care about the kids entrusted with their care. They need to be given back the reins on the campus as administrators. Principals cannot be an effective leader without the ability to hire, fire, train and discipline.

  • I believe in our CLASSIFIED STAFF. These are the behind the scene people that help our children every day. They drive the bus, clean up after them and support the teachers and administrators.

  • I believe in PARENTS. To a great extent, parents have now given up the fight. When they raise their voices in board meetings, they are ignored. They feel their needs do not matter to those who are elected to represent their best interests. They are two job households, single parents, grandparents raising kids and they do not have the energy to invest in a process that ignores them. They do not have the emotional, financial or time resources necessary to fight for what is right for the kids. This situation needs to change and give all stakeholders a voice.
