Lesli's vision will continue to benefit our students and our community

Lesli Stein is a proven leader with a passion for educational excellence in LVUSD. She will continue to be accessible; advocate for students and public education; monitor student learning with a focus on increasing achievement; and oversee and prioritize a complex budget.

Today's students need to be creative, critical thinkers and know how to work collaboratively. Our students will be among the future leaders, innovators and entrepreneurs in a global society. To be successful, they will need the appropriate skills to tackle the challenges ahead. Education must continually evolve to ensure that our students are prepared to compete. Las Virgenes, as well as all districts across the state, faces many challenges and opportunities with the new Common Core State Standards. These standards are internationally benchmarked and are centered on college and career readiness.

In addition to education reform, the state has also recently changed how it funds school districts. The new, complex funding process requires experienced fiscal oversight.

As we move forward, technology will play an increasing role in education. Expanding options for innovative and dynamic online and blended-learning courses will expose students to new subjects, new ideas and new cultures.

The new Performing Arts Education Centers offer unlimited resources for enhancing student learning in the performing and visual arts. They are also education platforms for student learning across the curriculum. Lectures, performances and interactive presentations can stream live from around the globe.

Further goals include:

Continue to offer programs and options so all students have opportunities for success

Focus on strategic facility oversight taking into consideration program needs and enrollment trends

Increase communication for transparency and accountability

Ensure that Measure G Facilities and Technology Bond money continues to be spent in a prudent and efficient manner

Reduce class sizes

Monitor the new Service Learning graduation requirement for success

Expand community and business partnerships

Further utilization of "green" and environmentally friendly practices

Lesli's goal is to meet these challenges head-on. This time of educational change demands continuity of leadership. LVUSD needs experienced, dedicated Board members who have knowledge of the details of the issues and and eye to the future.
