Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Dianne L. Philibosian

Candidate for
Governing Board Member; Pasadena Area Community College District; Trustee Area 1

This information is provided by the candidate

I bring 40 years of experience as a university administrator and professor in the CSU system (my Ph.D. is in Curriculum/Instruction), as well as 13 years (four as chair) on the University of the Pacific Board of Regents. I have a proven record of working harmoniously with students, staff, faculty and fellow board members.

During my 14 years of service on the PCC Foundation Board, I developed a deep appreciation of the true gem we have in our community. PCC offers private-school quality in a public setting. My primary commitment will be to continue that legacy for generations of students bound for university and for the workplace.

PCC needs leaders who can foster a sense of community and a shared vision for college. I believe I have the experience and the expertise to help build a positive environment on campus, emphasizing civil discourse and active engagement with all stakeholders + from faculty and students to the PCC Foundation and the general public.

As your representative on the PCC Board of Trustees, I will insist on fiscal responsibility and careful budgeting in this period of financial uncertainty. I will focus on improving the transfer rate to 4-year colleges, strengthening career and technical education, and ensuring access and success for all students + especially for returning veterans.

PCC must also plan for future challenges. Online learning, for-profit competitors, and increasingly complex workforce demands are among the many issues facing higher education. I believe I have the experience and skills to help meet these challenges and make a great college even better.

I'd be honored to have your support on November 5th.
