Board of Trustee Challenges for the Next Term

By Glenn Richard "Rick" Marshall

Candidate for Governing Board Member; El Camino Community College District; Trustee Area 5

This information is provided by the candidate
In the next term, the El Camino Board of Trustees faces several challenges:
1. The new board will begin the process of replacing our College President, Thomas Fallo. His resignation will be effective June 30, 2016. What is the best way to find and hire a new College President?

2. For the past couple of years, El Camino College has pared back class offerings. Classes are being added back because of the temporary funding reprieve due to the passage of Proposition 30. How does El Camino preserve these gains when the temporary taxes expire?

3. The entire budget of Southern California Regional Occupation Center (SCROC) is likely to be withdrawn in less than two years, leading to its closure. Does El Camino College have a role to play and if so what should be done about it?

4. Spending the $350 million bond approved by voters last fall for school construction has now started. The current economic downturn has made college construction cheaper as firms compete to stay in business, leaving surplus funds for other projects not approved by voters. How should El Camino go about expending the funds the voters have provided?

Please see G. Rick Marshall's answers to these questions at my campaign blog.
