The City of Hawthorne deserves a Mayor who is a trusted leader, with local roots, and has vision for the future.

For the past decade, Jose Gutierrez has a record as a civic leader, a uniter and a community advocate.

In 2005, Jose became active in his homeowner association, and by 2007 went on to serve as its President four years. During his leadership, Jose implemented a "Clean Sweep" program to address illegal dumping in alleys and streets, improved the local park, planted a mile of trees, had Stop signs installed to protect students at Cimarron Elementary, and re-introduced the localNeighborhood Watch program.

Jose has served on the Hawthorne Civil Service Commission, 51st Assembly District Health Sub-Committee, and Hawthorne Historical Society Board. Jose was a founding member of the Hawthorne Police Department CHAT program, a graduate of the Hawthorne Police Department Citizen Academy, and a graduate of Hawthorne's Emergency Response "CERT" program.

Jose has received numerous awards from the State Assembly, Rotary Club, and the City of Hawthorne for loyalty and perseverance in giving unselfishly to improve the community of Holly Park and the City of Hawthorne.

Jose was recently appointed President of the Hawthorne Economic Development Council. Jose has pledged to work in harmony with local business owners, developers, and city leadership to promote initiatives that balance the need for development with the duty to protect quality of life and residential character of our City.

As Mayor, Jose will make Hawthorne government work for everyone, returning integrity and accountability to an office marred by felons and corruption scandals.

He will deliver a new generation of jobs, partnering with small businesses and neighborhood associations to fuel economic development.

And he will ensure our neighborhoods are safe, secured and empowered.

Together, we can find creative - yet responsible - solutions to attract quality shopping and dining opportunities that will enhance Hawthorne's quality of life and generate revenue to enhance City services including parks, emergency services, and public safety.
