Campaign Statement

By Barbara E. Gaines

Candidate for Governing Board Member; Antelope Valley Community College District

This information is provided by the candidate
There are no educators on the AVC Board of Trustees. Gaines' education, experience, and expertise will help create a college of which serves the needs of both the students and the community.
At this time the Antelope Valley Community College Board does not have a board member who is an educator. That is like having a hospital board without a member who is a doctor or a nurse. It just doesn't make sense.      Gaines has been a realtor, small business owner, teacher, and is currently a college professor and principal of Shadow Hills Intermediate School. Her education and experience, make her uniquely qualified to bring major reform to Antelope Valley College.

Student Friendly Former students tell her registering and getting the classes they need at AVC is a difficult, if not impossible, task.  Streamlining the process and offering more classes must be a priority.

Student Success Too few AVC students earn degrees, certificates, or transfer to four year colleges.  Gaines has the expertise and determination to effect major changes in the student success rate.

Aerospace Emphasis AVC must become the leader in aerospace related education to fill the many vacancies anticipated in this industry.

Budget   Gaines develops the budget for her school.  She knows how to make the most of limited resources while improving the quality of education.

Barbara Gaines, an educator, for a change.
