2013 Campaign Statement

Candidate for Governing Board Member; Hacienda La Puente Unified School District

Provide the best quality eduation for our students and prepare them to meet the challenges in the 21st Century.
Under Dr. Joseph Chang's experienced leadership, Hacienda La Puente Unified School District schools have been recognized with 3 National Blue Ribbons, 31 California Distinguished Schools awards, 33 California Business for Educational Excellence awards, and among the "America's Best High Schools 2013" by U.S. Newsweek Magazine. In addition, Joseph has raised the district API to a soaring 814, installed new Science labs within HLPUSD high schools and middle schools, increased Career Tech Education courses, expanded Performing Arts and Athletics programs, installed HVAC systems in all district classrooms, and maintained sound district financial health.

Dr. Chang will continue to work hard to raise the school district's API, setting a goal to exceed 850, successfully implement Common Core State Standards in Math and Language Arts, continue to increase students' experience with and achievement in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) programs, ensure clean and safe campuses, pursue grants and projects that enrich educational programs, and maintain strong District fiscal security. He is committed to utilizing 21st century technologies to engage 21st century students in their academic journeys towards acquiring 21st century skills and knowledge!

Dr. Chang received his doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in Mathematics and Engineering Sciences from Northwestern University. He has been an engineer and mathematics professor for 32 years.
