Deserved Excellence in Primary Education

By Melissa C. Booth

Candidate for School Director; Owen J Roberts School District; Republican, Democratic Party

This information is provided by the candidate
Excellence in Primary Education has become a paramount concern since my commitment to becoming School Director in the OJR School District. Please join me. Let our voices be heard.
Evolving constituent discussions have awakened me to this serious concern - namely 'relatively low District-wide ranking when coupled with the large Financial Commitment our district provides".

Rankings and ratings are a tricky business. Multiple sites are available and all use differing criteria, differing evaluation methods and receive input from varying resources. Through my research the lone consistent factor leading to this position is the Keystone Comparative scoring at the Elementary level. Since being alerted to these concerns, I have done much research in many arenas. This situation results in the lowering of OJR District ratings.

I have review what teacher student ratios in these facilities are available to me. I have attempted to make sense of this inadequacy, but have yet been able to do so. The available facilities and extensive resources at hand should all be working to provide success in educating our elementary students to expected competency in the all important realms of reading and mathematics. Testing is a contentious subject, but it is a valid barometer for early math and reading skills. If elected, this will be a serious focus. I will not stop until I receive valid answers, valid explanation and valid revisions where needed. Teaching youth at the primary level to read, write and compute math is the eminent requirement and duty of an Educational Institution.

Neighboring School Districts perform at higher levels. We should be partnering with these districts to compare, to learn, to evaluate and perhaps adopt the techniques and procedures that have lead to their greater success. A consistent pattern of unsatisfactory scoring is NOT tolerable.

This matter deserves resolution. Our Constituency deserves this success .

Sincerely, Hopeful Candidate Board of Directors of the Owen J. Roberts School District
