The Fire Board needs election by division to become capable of solving Coastside problems.

The five Fire Board Directors are presently elected by the at large system. The law provides for "election by division" where the five directors are elected by a geographic part of the whole district.
Election by division will give Montara, Moss Beach, El Granada and Pillar Point about 2.55 seats on the Board of Directors. Half Moon Bay, by population will get about 2.45 seats on the Board of Directors.

By giving the northern part of the Coastside a measure of voting power on the Fire District Board of Directors, the northern communities can resume seeking creative solutions to the emergency medical service problems that have existed for longer than 15 years.
