Communities for a Better Environment, Los Angeles Community Worker from Oct.1995 to Dec.1995. Duties included environmental health and justice outreach, distribution of intervention materials to minimize the use of toxics and expand pollution prevention strategies, recruitment and involvement of those people most affected by industrial pollution in the decisions that impact their lives and their communities. Labor Defense Network, Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles Volunteer intake paralegal at legal clinic site, August 1992 to Nov. 1995. Advised, assisted and represented low-income workers with employment-related legal problems.

Central American Refugee Center, Los Angeles Volunteer intake paralegal at Political Asylum Clinic, Nov. 1992 to April 1995. Performed client intake interviews and prepared declarations for political asylum and citizenship applications. Assisted in family petitions, prepared detainee clients for asylum hearings and suspension of deportation before the INS. Presented weekly legal orientation "charlas legales" to immigrants and refugees about methods to regularize their immigration status in the U.S. and how to report and stop INS and police abuse.
