Board Member; Los Angeles Unified School District; District 6

Maria is a member of our community who attended local schools, worked for LAUSD as a Community Organizer, and has dedicated her life to education, social and economic justice and a better community for all.

MARIA brought more than 20 NEW SCHOOLS, Early Education Centers and Addition Projects to our community. Millions of dollars were invested and hundreds of local jobs were created as a result of projects like:

Arleta HS, Byrd MS (new campus), Cardenas ES, Chase EEC, Chavez Learning Academy, East Valley HS, Korenstein ES, Morningside ES Addition, Panorama HS, Romer MS, San Fernando MS Addition, Santana Arts Academy, Sendak ES, Sun Valley HS, Sylvan Park ES Addition, and Valley Region K-8 (Sylmar).

MARIA has a 20 year relationship with our:

Students, Parents Groups, Grandparents, Administrators, Students, PTA's, Chambers of Commerce,
Neighborhood Councils, Civic and Non-Profit Organizations, Unions

MARIA believes in the right of a Public Education for all students and not Private Interest Education.

MARIA's plan for our local schools includes working with all of our stakeholders for:

  • Smaller Class Sizes
  • Early Education/Head Start
  • Adult Education
  • Special Education
  • Community and Parent Partnerships/Engagement
  • Budget Transparency
  • School Safety
  • Funding for Arts Programs
  • Fully-Funded School Site Staffing Needs
  • Fair Labor Practices and Due Process

Maria will work with everyone in our Community to make sure that no child is denied a quality public education!
