I believe the middle class is the backbone of the United States. The middle class drives demand in this country and thus is the source for all job creation. Because the middle class is so critical to the strength of our country, the Government should be supporting the growth and strengthening of the middle class through policies and actions. By growing the economy, we can get the 14 million unemployed and the 16 million underemployed into family sustaining jobs. A strong economy is a matter of national defense and to have a strong economy we need to reinforce our pubic education system so that our students can compete in tomorrow's global job market and our adult workers can be even more competitive in today's market. Critical to our future is the development of national industrialization, energy, and immigration policies. We need to invest in infrastructure, research and development, and education. All of these things need to be done while protecting our constitutional rights and natural environment.
