By Matthew A. "Matt" Cartwright

Candidate for US Representative; Pennsylvania Congressional District; District 17

I believe that the government has a vital role to play in smoothing out the rough edges in what is called "the free market." For instance, banks should not be allowed to gamble with our money. And when the housing market collapsed, judges should have been allowed to adjust mortgages in order to minimize foreclosures, keeping families in their homes and communities intact. New tax breaks for families should replace old tax loopholes for corporations. And Research into new medicines and new forms of energy can't be left solely to the profit sector, or the resources necessary to make the breakthroughs of tomorrow that create new industries with new jobs will not be invested today.
