By Brendan F. Boyle

Candidate for State Representative; Pennsylvania State House of Representatives; District 170

We need to promote the creation of good jobs to strengthen our tax base, which will lead to greater long term investment to Northeast Philadelphia by both businesses and families.
Working families have been hit hard over the past several years by the effects of the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression. Rapid increases in the cost of food, gas, health care and higher education have eroded the savings and threatened the financial security of many of our friends and neighbors. The last few years have not been easy, and finding long term solutions to our economic problems will require a variety of policy solutions.

I believe that one of the quickest ways to a sustained economic recovery is through job creation and the growth of our tax base. To this end, I support the expansion of small business loans and targeted infrastructure investment to create up to 35,000 jobs. Small businesses make up over 99% of all employers and over 50% of our economic activity nationwide, and we must ensure that our Commonwealth remains an incubator for new and growing businesses and the jobs they generate. I believe that providing the necessary resources to small and mid-size business owners to establish themselves will not only provide jobs in the short term, but will establish a firm foundation for economic growth in the future.

Going forward, I will continue to support sustainable investment in our economy and infrastructure improvements that will ensure Pennsylvania remains a destination for businesses of all sizes and continues to create employment opportunities for our residents.
