Protect an individual's privacy by redacting imaged documents.

By Wayne Coates

Candidate for Recorder; County of Hamilton

This information is provided by the candidate
I believe it is imperative that we protect an individual's personal and private information from identity theft.
One of my major concerns is that anyone can come into the Recorder's Office and view our unredacted records. Since 2006 individuals filing documents are supposed to redact social security numbers before recording documents. However, the records prior to 2006 may contain personal identifying information such as drivers license, bank account numbers in addition to social security information.

In the Recorder's Office, we make copies of documents on request per ORC 149.45 of Ohio's open records law. The Recorder is supposed to redact or screen the social security number from the document when a copy is requested, however, the public can use a self-service printer and print out an original unredacted copy.

I believe it is imperative that we protect an individual's personal and private information from identity theft.
