Donna Jeye was raised in New Jersey, where she and her brothers all attended public school. She then attended Katharine Gibbs School in New York City, graduating with an AA degree.

While going to school, Donna met her future husband, Michael at work - she was a cashier and he was a stockboy at the local grocery store. They married shortly after graduation and have been together ever since. They have a son and daughter - Ali and Nicholas.

In 1998, the family moved to Santa Rosa from Virginia. Nicholas was in elementary school, and Ali was in middle school. To become familiar with the school district, as well as keep an eye on her children's academic progress, Donna started volunteering in the classroom, attended parent organization meetings at both schools, was elected to the Site Council at the elementary school and then became Secretary of the parent group at the middle school.

As her children moved on, so did she. She was Co-President of the Santa Rosa High School STP (Student Teacher Parent Organization) and eventually became President of the organization.

Through these various activities, Donna met many like-minded parents who were passionate about their children's education and school experiences. She also came to believe that Santa Rosa City Schools provided students with a highly competitive, positive educational environment while addressing the needs of a very diverse student population. In 2004 Donna decided to run for the School Board in order to be an advocate for children and public education right in her own community.

Donna serves on the Sonoma County Office of Education's CTE (Career Technical Education) Committee, the Santa Rosa Chamber of Commerce Advocacy Committee, and the Santa Rosa High School's Agricultural Advisory Committee.
