Experience Counts

By William H. "Will" Holsinger

Candidate for Commissioner; San Mateo County Harbor District

This information is provided by the candidate
I have history with both the Pillar Point Harbor and Oyster Point Marina, the education, training and experience needed to preserve and protect both of them, and a track record of dedication to serving the San Mateo County community.

As a second-generation native of the Peninsula, I've seen Pillar Point Harbor develop from an unprotected harbor, with no breakwater, to the safest harbor in Northern California. Storing a small sailboat at Oyster Point Marina in the early 1980s, I've seen it develop into an alternative transportation hub with a new ferry service, while still providing first class service to the small private boaters of the Peninsula.

I have a commercial fishing background. My mother was a commercial fisherman, working in the Farallones fishery in the 1960s and 70s. As a young man, I crewed on her boat and with other fishermen into my early 20s. I also learned to sail as a youth and have sailed or boated throughout San Francisco Bay. I have experience in public land use planning, serving on the Citizen's Advisory Committee for the Phase II development of Bay Meadows in San Mateo. I've had my own law practice for almost 20 years and was a partner in a large law firm before that. I am a member of the Chamber of Commerce.

I went to local pubic schools in San Mateo County and the Bay Area, including Mills High School, Sonoma State University, where I majored in Mexican-American Studies, and U.C., Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco.

I am committed to community service and have been active in San Mateo County affairs for 35 years. I worked for the late Congressman Leo Ryan, in both his District and Washington, D.C. offices. I served on the San Mateo Personnel Board for a number of years. I was on the board of directors of Women's Recovery Association of San Mateo County for over 11 years and am currently on the board for Project Ninety, a treatment program restoring men and women to productive lives. I've been a member of the Burlingame Rotary Club since 1999.

I am dedicated to continuing my service to all of San Mateo County as a Harbor Commissioner and have the skills, experience and perspective to protect and manage your tax dollars and public resources.
