CONSTRUCT A NEW LIBRARY WHEREVER THE VOTERS DECIDE:

By Greg Conlon

Candidate for Council Member; Town of Atherton

Conlon believes the library should be located where ever the other Town Office Buildings are located but will support the will of the voters on Measure F.
CONSTRUCT A NEW LIBRARY WHEREVER THE VOTERS DECIDE: The Town Council of Atherton has put on the November 6th ballot a proposition as to where a proposed new library should be built. This is known as Measure F. If you agree that it should be built in the Park then vote "YES" on Measure F. If you do not believe it should be located in the Park then vote "NO" on Measure F. My personal belief is that the Library should stay in the same location of the Town Center buildings. Currently the Public Works building is almost on top of the Caltrain commuter train right-of-way and will most likely have to be moved when the HSR begins operations, if not sooner. The Police Department and the other administration offices are located a short distance across the street from both the Town Council Chambers and the Public Works buildings. There seems to be adequate room behind the Town administration and Police Department building to locate a new library. If the voters decide not to locate the library in the Park, I assume there would be another study where other locations, such as the parking lot behind the Police Department building, would be considered. Regardless I belief because the Town of Atherton is small enough that we do not need to separate our essential services including the library separate from the other Town buildings. Therefore I would vote to not put it in the Park but somewhere near the present Administration and Police Department building so all our essential services are all in one place.
