Rich Campbell's Background

By Richard Tiburcio Campbell

Candidate for Council Member; City of Pacifica; 2 Year Term

This information is provided by the candidate
My background in the private and public sectors of the economy will allow me to assist the City in moving forward with quality high-revenue producing development that is also environmentally sensitive.
My background in the private and public sectors of the economy has provided me with a deep appreciation for the idea that fostering economic activity and promoting open space, and protecting the environment, are not mutually exclusive goals. This philosophy is why I voted for the Assisted Living Center on Oddstad (with reasonable streambank protections) when I was Chair of the Pacifica Planning Commission last year. And, it's why I have long supported keeping the Sharp Park Golf Course open so long as it maintains the current operation and maintenace program in place to minimize harm to endangered species.

A quick note on my background: Before working in government as an enforcement attorney, I worked in the private sector as an environmental and land use attorney for the largest commercial and residential builders in the nation (e.g., Shea, U.S. Homes, Toll Brothers, DMB). My current position as an enforcemental attorney has also provided me valuable insight into the state and local regulatory processes that the City and private developers will need to engage as we move forward on developing parcels like the southern end of the Quarry, abd the old water treatment plant. I also have a long local track record of actively supporting smart growth. On the Planning Commission I voted for, among other things:

- the Surf Spot,

-the new Assisted Living Center on Oddstad,

-the French Patisserie bakery on north Palmetto

-the new Walgreen's in the Manor district (designed to meet LEED),

- the remodeled McDonald's at Manor (also designed to green building standards),

- the new signage at the Pedro Point shopping center,

-the new look of the remodeled Safeway at Manor, and

-the Mega-Home notice ordinance

In sum, my public and private sector experience, and my understanding of the City's planning, zoning, and engineering requirements coming from serving on the Planning Commission since 2007, will allow me to move quickly to ensure the City benefits from well-planned and smart commercial and mixed-use developments throughout the City.
