Gladys Soto, a Latina parent with two children in San Francisco public schools, is running for the San Francisco Board of Education because she believes Latinos and English as a Second Language speakers need representation on the school board.

"My communities make up about a quarter of the student population, but our families don't have a voice in creating public school policy," Gladys said. "As stakeholders, we need a voice on the school board to develop policies that affect our children."

Gladys's experience as a community leader on the San Francisco Unified School District Bilingual Citizen's Advisory Committee, and in the SF Chapter of Parent Voices (an organization fighting to make quality child-care affordable and accessible to all families), has made her keenly aware of difficulties many families have had influencing public education policy.

As a commissioner, she will work inclusively to make sure all communities have input into policies established and administered by the SF School Board.

Gladys has served as the Associate Executive Director for the Mission Council on Alcohol Abuse, and is an elected delegate for the California Democratic Party Assembly District 13. She has a Masters Degree in Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy from San Francisco State University.
