  • Work to restore parent confidence in district schools:

It is vital that parents do not lose confidence in their children's school and district. I support parent choice amongst public schools, but at the same time want parents to have a solid understanding of the dynamics and learning opportunities at La Mesa Spring Valley schools. My personal responsibility as a board member will be to reach out to district parents to hear their concerns and ideas. A fully engaged school board can help build comprehensive parent/teacher/student relationships to foster growth, improve areas of need, and build confidence in district education.

  • Build continued improvement in academic achievement:

This district has made progress in academics, both as measured by test scores and through teacher reports on student knowledge. I will continue to push for greater improvement and refinements as needed to the district curriculum to ensure students receive a full and inclusive education.

  • Maintain strong outreach and communications with community and local government. :

As a board member, I will be a strong public supporter of education. I will seek to build ties with the local business community to keep them informed of district achievements, strengths, and needs. I believe that this district should demonstrate the importance of a strong and comprehensive primary education as the foundation for future employees, businesspeople, and leaders.

  • Work to restore smaller class sizes:

As a board member I will advocate for sufficient state level funding and make reduction of class size a priority for the La Mesa Spring Valley School District. Smaller classroom size allows for more focused teaching, less time spent on discipline, and greater use of one on one or small group specialized learning.

  • Support district employees:

As our children are our greatest resource, a dedicated and well trained staff is this district's most valuable asset. I will keep strong and open communication with teachers, classified staff, and administrators.

  • Place the best interests of the children first.

Education and, most especially, district level choices should always remain non partisan. I will always base my decisions on broadly gathered evidence and keep the best interests of the children of this district as the top priority.

  • Comprehensive education of the whole child:

It is critical that students master the basics of reading, writing, and mathematics. The overall education should involve the whole child including basics, science, civics, arts, and physical education. I support use of teacher approved and means tested curriculum without excess focus on state mandated tests preparation.

  • Transparent district budget:

The district budget should be clear and transparent. I support district employees, parents, and governmental agencies having quick access to district budget and finance information including understandable summary documents.

  • Explore site use of alternative energy:

Technological advances have created more alternative energy generation options, and at lower cost, than ever before. As a board member, I will work to explore these choices and available business and governmental financial assistance. Alternative energy is a future opportunity to assist with district power needs and as an on-site science learning model.
