As a board member I will advocate at the state level for reform of funding formulas and unfunded mandates. As Vice President for the Mt. Helix Council of PTA's, I authored a successfully passed resolution calling upon the state to change the state testing from every grade to every other grade starting with 3rd. This resolution was presented to local legislators and I will continue to support this change in policy. I will also request a federal level re-evaluation of testing areas and interpretation of results. Schools should receive credit for a majority of good results in testing categories rather than an all encompassing pass fail formula. Federal assistance should be targeted to help foster further improvement rather than punish the district for minor shortfalls. |
