Candidate for
Council Member; City of Vista

This information is provided by the candidate

It is time again to bring strong leadership to Vista. As a 12 yr Vista small business owner and 31 year retired U.S. Navy Captain, I will bring vision and fresh ideas to the Council.

A promise made is a promise kept. City staff, hours, and programs have been cut yet the city continues to operate at a deficit. I have provided several testimonies to the council against unneeded spending in these troubling economic conditions yet our families and youth face increased city fees for their parks and sports programs. I will help turn this around.

Vistans are proud of their much-admired fire department. Voters told city leaders that Vista is destined to be great + let's make it happen! That vote raised sales tax to build new stations, the Civic Center, and other facilities. It is important these taxes are used to pay for these promises + repay the debt and not for balancing the general fund.

South Vista is a strong community with beautiful parks and amenities. Our eastern and northern foothill communities are splendid. Krikorian complex and creek walk are gems in the midst of the city but much work remains necessary in old downtown and along Santa Fe. Although a hostile state government raided city coffers, the push to improve this area must vigorously continue. Empty lots and buildings must be well maintained while pursuing development efforts.

Since coming to Vista in the early 1980's, I have invested my time, talent and treasure in many organizations including the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, Vista Girls Softball and St. Francis Church. I serve on SD County's Palomar Airport Advisory Council. I am a graduate of Leadership North County and the Vista Citizens Leadership Academy.

During my tenure as Chairman and Vista Chamber Executive Board, I was instrumental in growing membership, improving finances, and bolstering events. I helped the Vista Business Expo become the largest in the County. I led the effort to bring back the 5K fun-run and the transformation of the annual downtown street fair into the thriving Vista Strawberry Festival we have today.

I spent 11 years as a Naval Nuclear Submarine officer during the height of the Cold War. Beyond the engineering wisdom, this experience developed my strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work closely on a team for the greater good.

I want to serve you and ask for your vote
