High quality teaching and learning

By Don Haught

Candidate for Trustee; Escondido Union School District; Trustee Area 3

This information is provided by the candidate
High quality learning occurs when well qualified teachers are supported in working with a reasonable number of students
The final determination of whether a student learns or not--increases what he/she knows, is able to do, and develops a thirst to learn more-- is the relationship between the teacher and the student. Public schools cannot choose their students, therefore, they must have superlative teachers who are committed and well supported to ensure the optimum learning of each student.

There is no "silver bullet" to educational success. It requires smart teaching, community support and wise and inspiring leadership at every school. Time is, according to one writer, the "coin of learning". It must be used well. This notion must be recognized by all participants in the learning enterprise.

These thoughts will guide my service on the school board.
