Let's Talk About the Recreation Center and our Children

By Mark Gracyk

My Plan for Re-Opening the Rec Center
When the current City Council voted to close down the Recreation Center and its programs, that had to rank as one of the most unpopular decisions in the history of our city. Today we have six candidates running for two seats on the City Council. All have ideas about the Recreation Center, ranging from rose tinted nostalgia to pie- in- the- sky hope from the government, but I am the only candidate with a PLAN. As I voiced during the Candidate Forum this last Monday night, I have a plan to reopen the recreation center and restore programs and activities. Within 100 days of taking office, I will release my detailed, comprehensive plan that calls upon utilizing all the resources of our community for the benefit of our children. I will mobilize our churches, non-profits, and community service organizations, sports leagues, youth groups, School District, City Government, high schools, colleges and citizens to come together for our children. Gone will be the days of territorial feuds and lack of communication and cohesion between the various groups in our community. Gone will be the days of our children with a lack of wholesome activities. This is just one example of the type of bold thinking, fresh ideas and new energy that I will bring to the City Council. I am calling upon the members of our community who truly want the best for our children and their future to stand beside me and help us to reach this important goal. Thank you.
