The Vallecitos Water District Board Is Out Of Control

By Betty D. Evans

Candidate for Board Member; Vallecitos Water District; Division 1

Why I'm running for Vallecitos Water District Board
After 60 years, the VWD is still 100% dependent on expensive imported water. They raised our water and sewer rates nearly 200% since 2005 - over $60 more a month - including an increase of almost $8 a month they've approved but delayed until AFTER the election.

VWD is not actively pursuing reclaiming, recycling or conserving our water resources. There are no serious plans for any type of water re-use in the near future.

They allowed a fellow board member to "spike" his public employee pension and receive a pension of over $144,000 a year for the rest of his life. (Source: San Diego Union-Tribune, 9/12/10)

VWD is not open and accountable. Board meetings are held at 4PM, an inconvenient time for the public. Board members pay themselves $150 or more for attending meetings that have been as short as 12 minutes and they exclude the public from many of their most important decisions in committee meetings.

I don't think this is the way you want your water district to operate.

As a former San Marcos City Council member and founder of Residents For A Rural Richland, I have a reputation for open government, fiscal responsibility and leadership with foresight.

As a member of the Vallecitos Water District Board, I will put my experience to work to make the VWD more open, responsible and efficient - and save you money.
