Education and Qualifications:
Being appointed to the Evergreen School Board is an honor and a humbling experience. In my first year of Board service, I have learned a lot about our District.

I have learned that we are fortunate to have skilled educators and supportive families that work together to help our kids achieve at high levels. Evergreen has an unrelenting focus on providing all students with educational excellence and is one of the top performing districts in the County. Our schools and programs consistently win local and statewide awards.

Evergreen also faces some real challenges. State funding is inadequate and inequitable. The achievement gap continues to exist. Our ability to continue doing what we've always done is diminishing.

Challenge always brings opportunity, however, and I believe we have tremendous opportunity in front of us. This fall we opened a new 21st Century school - Bulldog Tech - and we have reinvented teaching and learning at Katherine Smith Elementary. This is just the beginning.

Budget issues will continue for a while and it is more important now than ever to ensure our spending priorities are focused on student achievement. These opportunities are exciting. I look forward to continuing to make a positive contribution.
