Statement of Qualifications

By Ernest "Ernie" Solomon

Candidate for Director; Purissima Hills Water District

This information is provided by the candidate
More than 40 years experience as an engineering geologist has given Ernest Solomon unique insight of water supply problems.
Much of my more than 40 years experience as an engineering geologist has been on studies for water districts and public agencies in northern California. As a director of Purissima Hills Water District the past sixteen years, I have applied this experience to the key issues faced by the District: securing reliable water supply, better use of a scarce resource, capital improvements, and cost containment.

The paramount issue facing the District is reliable water supply. Increasing statewide demand for water because of population growth and enhanced consideration for the environment means there is increased competition for limited supply. In addition, California's seismicity poses a real risk to water supply nfrastructure. As a director of the Purissima Hills Water District, I will continue to place high priority on securing a reliable supply of water and will continue to support measures designed to achieve that goal including: encouraging conservation to extend existing supply; hardening the District's system to improve survivability in the event of earthquake or other geologic hazards; pushing SFPUC (our supplier) to complete seismic retrofit of the Hetch Hetchy system and to augment supplies from that system; seeking cooperative arrangements with neighboring water agencies to supplement our supply.
