Smart Voter Official Statement for Nancy A. Newton

Candidate for
Board Member; Fremont Union High School District

This is a copy of information submitted to elections officials by the candidate

Occupation: Incumbent
Education and Qualifications:
During my tenure, our five comprehensive high schools have excelled despite severe state budget cuts. We offer a challenging academic program including music, arts, athletics, career tech and Adult Education. Students and schools win many state and national competitions and achieve high test scores. Our schools are California Distinguished and National Blue Ribbon Schools. We maintain a full school year and seven period days without teacher furloughs or layoffs. Our schools are a community asset and keep our property values high and competitive.

During this budget crisis, cuts have been made away from the classroom. The Board and staff maintain prudent reserves and strong partnerships with our employee groups. Our bond facilities program is well managed saving millions in lower energy costs with solar rebates and competitive bids under the oversight of a citizen's committee.

As a very active and experienced member of the current Board of Trustees, I bring the knowledge, dedication and proven leadership necessary for a successful school district. I have never missed a Board meeting and attend many school and community events to foster communication. It is my honor to represent the students, staff and community. I respectfully ask for your vote on November 6.
