SJ/SV2020 - Eliminating the Achievement Gap by the Year 2020

I am fully committed to the SJ/SV2020 initiative, which is an aggressive challenge for all of the schools within Santa Clara County to squash the achievement gap (also known as the opportunity gap) for our under-served Latino and African-American children. The County Office has a set of metrics to track the progress of students, from kindergarten readiness to high school drop out rates.

Passion for early learning education

I believe the highest leverage of resources investing in our infant to grade 3 children will result in the greater success of the most children in Santa Clara County. I have contributed to the Early Learning Master Plan, made Head Start assessments for the federal study for our Blue Ribbon team, and been a member of the Head Start Policy Council for two years. Seeing the Head Start parents on a monthly basis grow and develop their leadership and parenting skills is very gratifying.
