Council Member; City of Mountain View

Occupation: Incumbent
Age: 59
Education and Qualifications:
Let's face facts: a City like Mountain View is far too complex to be summed up in a series of sound bites. Most major issues are related by cause and effect to others: economic growth that provides taxes for essential City services means more employees. More employees increase traffic and demand for housing and services. Lack of diverse housing means more commuting, increasing traffic and our carbon footprint.

There are no simple answers! Local government is a balancing act of many, often competing, demands. Understanding the complexity of our community, along with flexibility and creativity in addressing issues, are necessary characteristics of an effective Councilmember.

A Mountain View resident for over 3 decades, I've served on the City Council, the Planning and Parks Commissions and held nonprofit leadership positions. While I was Mayor, Mountain View positioned itself for the future by adopting the 2030 General Plan, maintaining a AAA bond rating, consistently balancing its budget, structurally reforming employee compensation programs and much more. And, as a professional mediator, I bring problem-solving skills including active listening, critical analysis of complex situations, brainstorming creative solutions, and proactive decision-making to the table.
