Smart Voter Official Statement for Peter Darrah

Candidate for
Board Member; Mountain View-Whisman School District

This is a copy of information submitted to elections officials by the candidate

Occupation: Computer Engineer
Age: 44
Education and Qualifications:
I am running to tackle the challenges facing the Mountain View Whisman School District.

Serving on the MVWSD Budget Task Force has taught me about careful fiscal planning to ensure quality education despite state budget cuts and increased class sizes. Serving on the Board of the Mountain View Whisman Educational Foundation has taught me about the critical role community support plays in sustaining our schools. I've learned about kids through parenting, coaching MVLAGS softball and volunteering in the classroom.

My children attended Landels Elementary and are currently attending Graham Middle School. My wife is a teacher at Landels. Seeing education through the eyes of a teacher and my children gives me an understanding of the issues facing both.

I am a computer engineer working as a manager for Advanced Micro Devices. My background gives me analytical skills to understand budgets, experience to set realistic goals, and people skills to drive change. I speak fluent Spanish and enjoy living in a community that embraces many cultures.

I am committed to wise budgeting through fiscal discipline, differentiated education to meet the needs of all students, and appropriate adoption of new technology. I hope you'll support me.
