Smart Voter Official Statement for Christopher Kent Chiang

Candidate for
Board Member; Mountain View-Whisman School District

This is a copy of information submitted to elections officials by the candidate

Occupation: Teacher
Age: 32
Education and Qualifications:
In my eight years as a teacher, I have taught in Mountain View, Cupertino, Los Angeles, and New York City in both public and independent schools. In 2010, I was Monta Vista High School's Teacher of the Year. I currently teach sixth grade history at the Sacred Heart School. I understand that there are different ways to be a great school. There are, however, commonalities among all great schools. All great schools focus on supporting teachers and aligning quality metrics with community values.

I will work to make our district the most sought after place to teach by making our schools places that honor and develop teachers throughout their careers with leadership tracks for our talented educators.

I will refuse to let our schools be defined by state standardized tests alone. There is no reason to wait for Sacramento. We can prepare our own schools for the 21st century.

I have a masters in teaching from Stanford University and a masters in educational leadership from Columbia University. I have trained with teachers from Finland and High Tech High. I am a Google Certified Teacher, Microsoft Innovative Educator, and UCSD certified Gifted and Talented Education teacher. Please visit: http://www.whychris.org
