Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Christina Burton

Candidate for
Member, Town Council; Town of Apple Valley

This information is provided by the candidate

The Town council voted to use "restricted wastewater" funds to purchase the Country Club & Golf Course. And at the advise of the Town Attorney to purchase this we now see the Town struggling with $88,000 dollars a month that us taxpayers are having to pay for.

I will vigorously seek to overturn the Town's ownership of the burdensome Country Club & Golf Course, which I believe was illegally purchased, because of the source of the funds used.

We the taxpayers paid $2.1 million to bail out a foreclosed condominium project called the "Happy Trials Villas." Now that these condo's have been built we have a big problem, every unit is two-story and isn't ADA accessible. These units do not comply with ADA laws for low income HUD, and we stand to be sued one day.

I promise to pursue the legal means to restructure or eliminate the debt incurred by the Town relative to the "Senior Affordable Housing Project" and the "Happy Trials Villas."

The Yucca Loma Bridge was estimated to cost $90 million back in 2007 when the bonds were floated. Now it will only cost $31 million to construct. There is only $32 million left, where did the rest of the money go? The Town spent $15 million on the Animal Shelters and Public Works Buildings, and $4.5 million of that money is obligated to low to moderate-income housing. That leaves only $12.5 million left, where did the money go?

I will constantly be on guard to ensure that our Town's money will not be spent for projects that provide giveaways to the special interests groups and corporations lobbying for their own self interests.

I believe it is now time to reject those financially disastrous actions by our present council by overturning those projects and returning control of the Town's finances to it's citizens.
