At an early age, Ken learned the importance of hard work and honesty. At age 17 Ken took a year off from school in the 11th grade in order to help support his family after his father was hospitalized with a serious lung illness. Ken purchased a tandem wheeled dump truck with a loan from the former truck's owner and went to work driving truck hauling asphalt on the various roads in British Columbia. He became a member of the Teamsters Union and worked as an "owner operator" until the next school year when he returned to finish the 11th grade. As a senior in high school, Ken was elected Student Body President. He obtained his high school diploma from McBride Senior Secondary, British Columbia, Canada.

At age 20 Ken traded in his first truck (which was paid for) and bought a new International 4300 Transtar 18 wheeler. When not in school he drove his truck. He continued his trucking business for approximately four years, all the while advancing through college and university.

Ken obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree as well as a Master of Arts Degree in Government from California State University, Sacramento. Ken attended Pepperdine University Law School, Malibu, California where he received his Juris Doctorate Degree in 1982 and was admitted to the California State Bar in 1983.

Licensed as an attorney before the State Bar of California in 1983, Ken later went to work for Stockwell, Morris & Anderson as a Workers' Compensation Defense Attorney. From there he became a Partner with Mercer & Zinder, where he headed their Workers' Compensation Department. While at Mercer & Zinder, Ken became very involved in the Orange County Workers' Compensation Defense Association, becoming their Secretary, Vice President and finally President. He also became an instructor for the Insurance Educational Association where he taught Self-Insurance Law courses. Ken has written hundreds of articles for the Workers' Compensation Defense Community and published his own newsletter "CompDigest" from 1991 until 2008.

In 1991, Ken went out on his own, forming The Law Offices of Kennith L. Peterson, which served the Workers' Compensation Defense Community. In July of 1996 Ken purchased what was then the Tarbell Realty building at 949 E. Yorba Linda Blvd, in the City of Placentia, a short drive from his home in Yorba Linda, where his firm is still located today. In September of 1999, Ken was appointed Special Deputy Attorney General for the State of Idaho, by the Attorney General of Idaho, Alan G. Lance, for his representation of the State of Idaho. Following a firm split in 2007, Ken restructured his firm to be one of the area's top Personal Injury and Elder Defense Firms. Ken has had numerous clients return to give their personal testimonies as to his strong ethics, compassionate nature, and professionalism in handling their cases and meeting their individual needs.
