Four members of the current CMSD Board are suing another CMSD Board Member under a dubious theory of incompatibility of office. There is no statute or case law to back up the claim of incompatibility. Further, there has been not once instance of an actual imcompatibility or conflict of interest between the one CMSD Board Member and his previous appointed public office. This lawsuit is unnecessary, vindictive, and a waste of resources and time. If elected, I intend to resolve the issue and END this lawsuit which has cost the ratepayers thousands of dollars so far.

Residents of Newport Coast pay about $11/month for residential trash pick up while the residents of Costa Mesa Sanitary District pay about $19/month. I fully intend to reduce the trash rates - in part, via a refund of the $5.5 million surplus that has been created over the years due to the ongoing overcharging. Considering how long this has been going on, I find it curious current incumbents are now interested in lowering rates.

The current residential CMSD trash contract has not been placed out to comptetitive bid in over 68 years. I intend to find a way to push (or modify) this contract out for bid in an effort to create lower rates and increase efficiency. I believe the marketplace (and common sense) should determine which trash service and contract would be in the best interests of the ratepayers.

In order to implement these and other much needed changes, I am asking not only for your vote and your support, but to also support and vote for DON HARPER - a successful businessman, father of two, and longtime resident of Costa Mesa whose vision and mission mirrors my own. Together Don and myself will bring the needed improvements and restoration of integrity and fiscal sensibility to the CMSD Board.
