Steve Lang grew to appreciate the value of hard work early in life. He spent his summers as a teen in Downey, CA working construction and roofing jobs. At age 19, he passed the California contractor's license exam to become the youngest B-1 general contractor in the state, and by 22, had started his own roofing company. Lang Roofing has been a successful model of a thriving small business in Orange and Los Angeles Counties for the past 38 years. In 1995, Steve joined the board of directors of the RCASC (Roofing Contractors Association of Southern California), where he has held both president and vice-president positions and co-chairs the association's annual charity golf tournament. Steve also currently serves on the board of directors of his home owner's association as well as supporting other groups such as the NFIB (National Federation of Independent Business), the Boy Scouts of America, the YMCA, and various other conservative political candidates and causes. He is also a lifetime contributor to the Surfrider Foundation.

Steve enjoys volunteering within his church community, having spent considerable time working with youth in various mentoring programs. He has served for over 15 years as a bishop in his area, ministering to upwards of 700 church members at a time. Happily married for over 37 years, he and his wife, Cindy, also started a singles program that facilitated opportunities for young adults to meet one another and worship together.

Steve and Cindy love living near their three daughters and sons-in-law, who are all raising families of their own in San Clemente. They enjoy spending time with their ten grandchildren attending their sporting events, going to the beach, and taking family trips to their river home. An avid surfer and golfer, Steve enjoys being active outdoors in the beautiful beach town he calls home.

Children's education has always been paramount to the Langs. Steve and Cindy were both very involved with everything from booster clubs to the PTA when their children were young. There is a monument at Fountain Valley High School dedicated to their son, Scotty, who passed away on the football field and whose memory they honor by donating two generous scholarships to deserving students annually in his name. A well-spoken and congenial collaborator with strong leadership qualities, Steve looks forward to bringing transparency and fiscal responsibility to the school board to ensure the CUSD focus remains on expanding our children's educational opportunities.
