I believe local government should be non-partisan. There is no republican or democrat way to pave roads or trim trees. A life-long democrat, I do believe in government as an instrument for civic improvement.

Irvine is a successful planned community in large measure because of progressive policies. We have sought to balance development and public space, developing one of the most extensive park and open space reserves and miles of hike and bike trails.

Irvine is one of the few cities in California that offers significant support -- both direct and non-economic -- to our local schools.

We invest significantly in our public safety resources and are proud to have been named America's Safest City eight years in a row.

Irvine has been named one of the most "recession ready" cities, producing balanced budgets and maintaining healthy reserves.

I believe that we must invest not only in our road infrastructure, but in our human infrastructure as well. I have the Strategic Plan for Children, Youth and Families, our long range housing strategy and the development of the Irvine Community Land Trust.

I care about the environment, and was the driving force behind our "Healthy Cities, Healthy Planet" program.

Irvine is a city that embraces innovation, education and civic participation. Positive leadership has been a key to our success.
