AUHSD Needs New Leadership

By Thomas "Hoagy" Holguin

Candidate for Board Member; Anaheim Union High School District; 4 Year Full Term

This information is provided by the candidate
The quality of education in our schools and our children's futures are at stake. We need strong leadership to bring integrity back to our schools and pride back to our students.
Anaheim Union High School District is in a fiscal crisis, and our graduation rates and test scores are among the lowest in the County. The current Board has made major cuts through layoffs of teachers, counselors, and librarians. You can elect someone with strong fiscal experience to stop these negative trends. There are still operational efficiencies that could save hundreds of thousands of dollars such as lowering vendor costs, consolidating transportation routes, and freezing arbitrary pay raises. These savings could help reduce layoffs and fund athletics, along with after school and occupational programs. As an Anaheim business owner for over thirty years, I have weathered financial storms and made tough spending cuts. When elected, I will insist on the right cuts and demand that we get rid of financial waste. As a past member of the Board, I was instrumental in saving over seventy million dollars by eliminating administrator bonuses, renegotiating contracts, and by strong fiscal oversight of the school construction program. We need to make cuts in the right areas to preserve fiscal solvency. Together we can secure the future for our children, grandchildren and tomorrow's leaders. A vote for me on November 6th is a vote for education. Thank you for your vote.
