Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Jose Alfredo Hernandez

Candidate for
Board Member; Santa Ana Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate

I would like to provide the students of Santa Ana with the best learning facilities, the resources to be successful and the most dedicated teachers. I want to continue my work on the board that I began almost 6 years ago, when we had to balance a difficult budget while not laying off any teachers. That has been a tremendous accomplishment and a task that we may certainly be faced with again. In June of 2008, I lead the majority of the Board in pushing for Measure G. We received the community's approval of over 67% in voter support. We have leveraged an initial bond of about $200 million to well over $415 million that has allowed us to build over 354 new classrooms and modernized over 825 classrooms. This in turn has allowed us to remove 465 portables that have resulted in over 8 acres of additional play space. The facelift of our schools has been a badge of honor for the entire City of Santa Ana. I will continue to build on the great relationships that I have established with all of our stakeholders, parents, teachers, community activists and our students to ensure that SAUSD continues to press forward.
