Not only is it true that "Every child can succeed," it is our responsibility to build a proper environment and provide the necessary services to ensure that every child has the opportunity to succeed. As a principal, the schools I had the honor to lead, were able to address the "whole child" even while achieving impressive results in the state testing program.

While at Paul Revere School, we became the first school in Anaheim City School District to establish the cutting edge behavior program Positive Behavior Intervention and Success. The successful implementation of this program, led to a healthier environment, reduced office referrals and a marked decrease in incidents of bullying. I was then involved in assisting to bring the program to other schools in Anaheim.

Community input and involvement is crucial for the sucess of the school. While I was principal of Paul Revere School, the entire Revere community was honored by the Orange County Human Relations Board for the community involvement.

Teambuilding is also crucial. The crowning moment of my career as a principal was the opening of Ponderosa School. 1100 children attending four different schools were brought to the beautiful new site. It took very little time to get staff that came from many different schools, and families that came from four different schools unified to a common purpose. The opening of Ponderosa and the first complete year was a huge success.

A successful educational program is a very complicated puzzle that needs many components and a balanced approach to all of the challenges that face our students, our teachers, our employees and our families. I believe that my successful experiences in the past 35 years have equipped to me serve on the Board of Education and work with the entire to community to build such a program for our future- the children of Anaheim.
