Closing Statement - Fountain Valley School District Candidates Forum - October 16, 2012

By Jim Cunneen

Candidate for Board Member; Fountain Valley School District

CLOSING STATEMENT
1. I believe I am qualified to be a Trustee because I am focused, reasonable, objective, oversee budgets, am fiscally responsible, and committed to community service. I have participated in weekly choir at church since I was 10 years old, been active in School Site Council at Cox Elementary, and routinely volunteer in my civil engineering profession with various groups such as the American Public Works Association.

2. I am a critical thinker and have the courage to inquire about all issues because of my training in law school and my current civil engineering responsibilities. I will contribute positively to discussions with my fellow board members. I have the TIME to devote to this job;

3. I am a successful fiscal manager. I know how to make sound fiscal decisions, balance budgets, and use WISELY scarce educational dollars. I will bring this spirit of disciplined spending to the Board, with the goal of avoiding fiscal emergencies. In the public sector, it takes much longer to steer into safe fiscal harbor. Time is truly of the essence for budgetary matters; and finally

4. I deeply care about the interests of all our students. Test scores released last Thursday indicate steady progress in Fountain Valley School District students' achievement. I look forward to being a policy maker who will continue to make decisions and support policies to improve academic achievement and move students forward.

I am asking for and look forward to your vote. Thank you.
