Fix It All

By John Briscoe

Candidate for Board Member; Huntington Beach Union High School District; 4 Year Full Term

This information is provided by the candidate
Fix Bonds, Budgets, Achievement, Sports & Enrollment
FIX DECLINING ENROLLMENT
-- NO MORE LOST CHILDREN Families are voting with their feet, sending children to other schools. We must create programs that attract these lost children by increasing school security with ID badges and fencing our campuses. Programs and student support must exceed private school options.

FIX STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT
-- NO MORE CLASS CUTS Schools must serve the needs of all children - including the vast bulk that will never attend college. "Middle" students are being neglected. Vocational classes are being cut. Most kids will marry, work and have a family. These students need vocational "Life Prep" courses to prepare for lifetime success.

FIX TEAM SPORTS
-- NO FAILED STATE P.E. EXAM California State now requires sophomores to pass a rigorous exercise exam in order to graduate from school. To halt P.E. test failures, all freshmen must be rigorously encouraged to participate in vigorous team sports that build stamina: for fun, better in-school concentration - and to pass the State test.

FIX BUDGETS & PROGRAMS
-- NO BONDS & TAX INCREASES We will conduct a district-wide audit to improve systems for school site budgeting through energized Site Councils. Training will be provided. The community will be involved and educated on the total approval power Site Councils have over ALL programs on campus. Budgets will be made visible to all.
