The state budget issues and on-going fiscal crisis have placed our community colleges in a commaBecause of the state budget issues, community colleges have taken a back seat to other educational institutions. Community colleges have been drastically impacted with never-ending cuts and empty promises by the state. Furthermore, people that have lost their jobs are returning to community colleges seeking to gain the new necessary skills to compete in today's workforce. Our communitiy colleges can no longer afford to attempt to be everything to everybody. New priorities need to be established to meet the essential needs of the community today. Business partnerships need to be prioritized and other funding sources must be sought. Most importantly, more efficient use of the limited resources needs to be accomplished. |
