Preserving and Protecting our Environment We must protect our precious environment from inappropriate development and continue to provide enhanced coastal protection and conservation in this area. Our two largest economic engines in Monterey County + Agriculture and Tourism + depend upon the incredible natural resources of this area. We must preserve the environment for the generations to come. It is the right thing to do and it makes good economic sense!

Strengthening the Local Economy We are in the toughest economic times that we have seen in decades, and due to this, we are having to make incredibly difficult decisions about how to cut, trim and become more efficient while maintaining critical services. I will continue to work to find jobs, promote economic development, balance the budget and make county government and services more efficient and accessible. And I will find new areas where we can work in partnership with Cities and other municipalities to build greater coordination and better use of resources to improve quality of life for our working families including public health, public safety and affordable housing.

Working to solve our water and traffic problems And I am committed to finding a long term, sustainable solution to our water needs in Monterey County. This includes a mix of alternatives such as: desalinization, aquifer storage and recovery, reclamation and conservation. And as your representative on the Transportation Agency of Monterey County, I continue to make reducing traffic congestion a priority. We have provided affordable solutions such as the Carmel Hill climbing lane and improvements on Carmel Valley Road, Highway 68 and Highway 101.
