Expansion of Employment Through Local Business Enhancement

By David "Dave" Pacheco

Candidate for Member, City Council; City of Seaside

This information is provided by the candidate
Listening and Trust to Create a business effective and job development community.
I believe it is essential that job opportunities become more available for Seaside residents. I would accomplish that through being pro-active in working with the Seaside business community. Seaside businesses need attention by city government to include (but not limited to), simplifying and expediating the process for existing and potential Seaside businesses. In my campaign of walking and listening to the business community, it is apparent there is a lack of trust toward city government and city government lacks an awareness of the business community concerns.

I would schedule area meetings of store owners at their businesses and listen to concerns and do my utmost to create a strong sense of trust through acting upon concerns that are doable and responding to those that are not currently achievable.

I would create a forum for large businesses, developers and car dealerships owners that would allow opportunities to hear their concerns, hopes and suggestions. In talking to business owners and developers they have indicated that because of an unresponsive city government it is perceived that Seaside is not business friendly. I would act upon their suggestions if possible and create a relationship that promotes business via incentives when feasible. I would respond to the concerns of our business owners and potential business owners in an overall greater promotion of Seaside as a great place to do business.

I would approach business and extend notice of appreciation for their doing business in Seaside and gratitude for hiring Seaside residents. Acknowledging business contribution personally and at Council meetings is an effective way to keep businesses content and doing business in Seaside.
